FAQs

Curious minds, you’re our kind of people. Whether you’re wondering how fast your order ships, what our return policy is, or how to keep that linen towel looking fresh, we’ve got you covered. Scroll on for answers and if we missed something, just drop us a hei!

Let’s Talk Orders

  • Orders up to $150 ship for a flat $10, and orders $150 and up ship free because good design deserves a smooth ride (and a reasonable fare). Most orders ship within 1–3 business days.

  • If you catch us before your order ships, we’ll do our best to make it happen. Email us ASAP at hi@hei-day.com and we’ll work our magic before it’s on the truck.

  • Soon! Most Hei-Day goodies are out the door within 1–3 business days. If something needs a little extra time, we’ll keep you posted.

  • All the usual suspects — Visa, Mastercard, and American Express — plus Shop Pay Installments for those “treat yourself now, pay later” moments.

Getting the Good Stuff to You

  • You sure can! If you’re local to Portland, Maine (lucky you), choose Local Pickup at checkout. We’ll send you an email when your order’s ready, usually within 1–2 business days. Then swing by our Portland pop-up shop, grab your goodies, and maybe sneak in a little browsing while you’re here.

  • Orders up to $150 ship for a flat $10, and orders $150 and up ship free — because good design deserves a smooth ride (and a reasonable fare).

  • Usually 2–7 business days, depending on where you live. (Maine to Malibu takes a minute.)

  • We ship within three business days, but even Hei-Day magic can’t outpace the post office. To make sure your gifts arrive by Christmas:

Standard → Order by Dec 10
Expedited → Order by Dec 15
Express → Order by Dec 18
Local Pickup → Order by Dec 23 at 5pm

After that, we’ll still ship fast — we just can’t promise reindeer-speed delivery. And even if you order by these dates, final delivery timing is in the hands of the carrier (and their holiday hustle).

  • Once your order ships, we’ll send you a little love note (okay, an email) with your tracking number so you can follow your package’s every move, from our hands to your doorstep.

  • Sometimes packages like to play hide-and-seek. Check with your neighbors, building manager, or that favorite plant by your door. Still no luck? Drop us a line and we’ll help track it down.

  • Not just yet. We’re keeping it close to home for now, but international shipping is on our wish list. Stay tuned!

Didn’t Fall in Love?

  • We get it, sometimes love takes a second try. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery for unused items in their original condition. Sale items and special orders are final sale.

  • If you’re sending something back just because it’s not your vibe, return shipping’s on you. If it arrived damaged or we made a mistake, that one’s on us.

  • Yep. Once they’re yours, they’re yours — think of it as a forever kind of thing.

  • Not directly, but easy fix: just return your item within 14 days and place a new order for the one that truly sparks joy.

  • Yep! In-store purchases can be returned for store credit or exchange within 14 days, as long as they’re unused and in original condition. We’ll make sure you leave happy, promise.

  • If your item took a tumble in transit, don’t panic — we’ve got you. Send us your order details and a quick photo of the damage, and we’ll make it right with a replacement or refund.

Caring for Your Hei-Day Finds

  • Good design deserves good care. Most of our pieces just need a little love (and the occasional wipe-down) to stay looking their best. Below are some quick tips, but you’ll find full care details on each product page.

    Ceramics & Stoneware
Hand wash in warm, soapy water unless noted otherwise. Most are dishwasher safe, but gentle care is always a good idea. Avoid sudden temperature changes to prevent cracking.

    Porcelain
Wash with warm, soapy water. Store and dry upside down so moisture doesn’t linger, and add felt pads under vases to keep surfaces water-ring free.

    Glass
Mouth-blown pieces prefer hand washing and a soft cloth. Machine-blown glass is usually fine in the dishwasher (top rack is best). Avoid big temperature swings.

    Wood
Wipe with a damp cloth, never soak or use the dishwasher. A little food-grade oil now and then keeps the wood smooth and glowing.

    Wool & Alpaca
Air them out often; they’re naturally self-cleaning. If you need to wash, use a cool wool cycle and dry flat. No bleach or tumble dryers.

    Linen & Cotton
Machine wash warm on a gentle cycle and line dry to keep fibers strong. Iron on the reverse if wrinkled. Skip bleach and softeners.

    Silicone & Nylon
Dishwasher safe and easy to clean. Just keep them away from open flames.

    Metal
Wipe with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid soaking and harsh scrubbing. A quick polish keeps the shine alive.

    Wool Felt & Wool Beads
Spot clean or hand wash cool. No soaking or spinning. Air dry flat and store somewhere dry.

    Rubber-Lined Wool (Aveva Flower Pots)
Treat the rubber lining with leather grease occasionally and keep it out of the sun. Don’t leave standing water for more than a few days.

    Candles & Candleholders
Burn candles evenly edge to edge, trim wicks to ¼ inch, and keep them at least 4 inches apart. Wipe holders clean—no soaking or scrubbing.

    Feather-Fill Pillows
Machine wash gently, then dry thoroughly with dryer balls to keep feathers fluffy. Air out regularly.

    General Rule of Thumb
When in doubt, go gentle. Warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth are your best friends.
